4-Day Aït Bouguemez Trek: Arous, Timit and Ouzoud
Description
This four-day journey starts with the road from Marrakech into the Central High Atlas, then follows the Arous valley to Ikkis. The route crosses the Igoudamen mountain pastures before descending into Aït Bouguemez and continuing through Aït Imi to Timit. Two tent nights and one guesthouse night give a compact introduction to mountain travel. Ouzoud adds a waterfall stop to the return, with visiting time and the remaining drive planned together.
The first walk is around two hours, but the next two stages are about five and a half and five hours. Day two includes a steep descent; day three adds the Adazen ridge. Regular hill-walking fitness and confidence on uneven paths matter. This is not an ascent of M’Goun or a river-wading trek. Pastoral slopes, fields and earthen villages are the reason to choose it.
The itinerary visits the dinosaur-track area near Ibakliouine and continues to Sidi Moussa above Timit. This building combines granary and marabout functions; access must respect its local use. The guide connects the sites with the valley landscape without promising a private-home visit. Pastoral activity varies with season, and no particular family or flock is guaranteed.
Send your dates, group size and recent walking experience. The proposal should confirm the Timit guesthouse, bedding, potable water, guide language and meals on road days. The published services list transfers, trekking meals, guide, cook, mule support, tents and mattresses. The first drive is long and Ouzoud does not make the return day a short transfer.

More than a stroll through the valley

Regular hill-walking fitness and confidence on uneven paths matter. This is not an ascent of M’Goun or a river-wading trek. Pastoral slopes, fields and earthen villages are the reason to choose it.
Heritage along the path

A useful enquiry
Send your dates, group size and recent walking experience. The proposal should confirm the Timit guesthouse, bedding, potable water, guide language and meals on road days. The published services list transfers, trekking meals, guide, cook, mule support, tents and mattresses. The first drive is long and Ouzoud does not make the return day a short transfer.
Itinerary
Day 1 — Day 1 — Marrakech to Ikkis: leave the road for the Arous valley
The drive passes Azilal and continues through Aït Abbas towards the meeting point with the mule team. Lunch is planned before the first walk. Following the Arous valley towards the Ikkis shepherding area gives time to adjust to a slower pace after the road. Equipment and agreed main bags travel with the mules; your daypack stays with you. The first tent night is here, with the precise pitch selected for conditions. Allow a full day: around five hours driving precede roughly two hours walking.
- Around 5 hours driving + 2 hours walking
- Tent camp at Ikkis n’Arous
Day 2 — Day 2 — Igoudamen to Aït Imi: the valley seen from above
The path gains height through the Arous pastoral ground and the pastures used by villages including Agouti and Aït Ziri. Views open towards cultivated Aït Bouguemez when visibility permits. Seasonal herding activity may be present, without an arranged encounter. A steep descent reaches the Aguerd n’Ouzrou spring sector, where irrigation channels offer a practical explanation of how water reaches fields. Camp is planned near Aït Imi. The five-and-a-half-hour estimate needs pauses added; this is the most sustained day of the short route.
- About 5½ hours walking; steep descent
- Tent camp near Aït Imi
Day 3 — Day 3 — Ibakliouine and Adazen to Timit: traces, gardens and a hilltop granary
The route includes the dinosaur-track site near Ibakliouine before climbing through juniper terrain to the Adazen ridge. The source describes about 400 metres of ascent on this section, not the complete day’s measured gain. Descending towards Aït Ouangdal brings a lunch pause, then paths beside gardens and the river lead through the inhabited valley. Sidi Moussa offers a final hilltop viewpoint if access is available. Timit provides the guesthouse night; private bathrooms or particular bedding are not assumed.
- About 5 hours walking; source ascent around 400 m on Adazen section
- Guesthouse at Timit
Day 4 — Day 4 — Ouzoud and Marrakech: make room for the stop
The vehicle returns towards Azilal and Ouzoud. A visit to the falls changes the scene from mountain fields to a waterfall setting, but water flow and access vary. Agree the walking involved, viewing points, any local guide or fees and the available time before booking. Boat rides, swimming and feeding wildlife are not included activities. The source’s remaining two-and-a-half-hour drive after Ouzoud is not the entire day’s travel time; confirm a realistic Marrakech arrival before onward plans.
- Road return via Azilal and Ouzoud; full timing to confirm
- No fourth overnight included

Who this trek suits
Walkers seeking a short valley trek with camping and local heritage
Fitness and route conditions
Two longer stages, uneven paths and a steep descent call for regular walking practice. Confirm trail conditions and the best dates for the actual route. A valley photograph does not mean every section is level or green in every season. This itinerary has no high summit objective.
Nights and luggage
Two tent nights are followed by a guesthouse night in Timit. Tents and mattresses are listed; confirm sleeping bags, house bedding, sharing, toilets and washing facilities. Mules carry agreed bags and camp equipment. Ask for weight limits and a seasonal packing list.
Food, water and visits
Meals during the trek are listed, but exact first/last road-day coverage needs confirmation. Drinks are excluded, so agree potable-water supply and cost. Springs and irrigation channels are not drinking-water promises. Confirm access and fees at the track site, Sidi Moussa and Ouzoud.
Private or group departures
The published format is 4–12 people or private. No live date or new rate is assumed. State your walking experience, dietary needs, preferred guide language and transfer arrangements. Preserve time after the last drive rather than booking a tight connection.

How many full walking days are there?
Two main days, around 5½ and 5 hours, plus the two-hour approach on day one. Day four is the return with an Ouzoud visit.
Is this an easy family walk?
The source calls it easy, but the steep descent and sustained stages need individual assessment, especially for children.
Does it climb M’Goun?
No. It explores Arous and Aït Bouguemez, not the M’Goun summit.
How many nights are included?
Three: two camping nights and the planned guesthouse night in Timit. Confirm the house in the proposal.
Are tents and mattresses supplied?
They are listed in the source. Sleeping bags and other bedding need confirmation.
Do mules carry our bags?
Mule-team support is included for agreed equipment and main bags. You carry your own daypack.
Are dinosaur tracks part of the route?
The published day-three route includes the Ibakliouine area. Confirm current access and fees; do not touch or remove material.
Can we enter Sidi Moussa?
Access is subject to local arrangements. This is a heritage and religious-use site, so visits must be respectful.
Are drinks included?
No. The source excludes drinks. Agree potable-water arrangements rather than relying on springs.
When do we reach Marrakech?
Confirm the full day-four timing, including the Ouzoud visit. The stated drive after Ouzoud is only one part of the day.
