3-Day Atlas Village Trek: Azzaden, Imenane and Imlil

This Atlas village trek starts at Imi Oughlad and finishes at Imlil, linking the Azzaden side of the mountains with Imenane through a sequence of passes. Tahliouine and Tinghrine provide the two guesthouse nights. It fits a short stay in Morocco without reducing the mountain experience to a roadside excursion: you walk each day, change valley and carry on from the previous night’s village. There is no Toubkal summit attempt or high-refuge night.

Tizi n’Tacht introduces the first valley; Matate and Aguersioual give the middle day its effort and change of view. The final crossing at Tizi n’Tamatert opens towards Aït Mizane before the descent to Imlil. Between the passes, the route follows inhabited mountain country, with village paths, trees and cultivated slopes. Your guide explains what you pass, without promising private home visits or turning people’s daily work into an attraction. Ask before taking portraits and keep space for local walkers and pack animals.

The source estimates about four hours on day one, six and a half on day two and five on day three. The middle stage includes approximately 800 metres of ascent and 700 metres of descent, according to the published programme. That makes regular hill-walking experience important. A three-day label does not mean three easy strolls, and the final day still has a full walk before the road return. Tell us about your recent outings so that we can judge the fit.

A qualified guide leads the walk, supported by a cook and mule team for the agreed main luggage. You carry water, layers and personal essentials in a daypack. Meals during the walking programme and two guesthouse nights are included. Actual houses, room sharing, bedding, washing facilities and guide language are confirmed in the proposal. We use the village names to describe overnight locations; the photographs do not promise a particular accommodation.

Three days on the paths between valleys

The appeal is in the crossings

Short in duration, substantial on foot

The source estimates about four hours on day one, six and a half on day two and five on day three. The middle stage includes approximately 800 metres of ascent and 700 metres of descent, according to the published programme. That makes regular hill-walking experience important. A three-day label does not mean three easy strolls, and the final day still has a full walk before the road return. Tell us about your recent outings so that we can judge the fit.

A local team and two nights under a roof

A qualified guide leads the walk, supported by a cook and mule team for the agreed main luggage. You carry water, layers and personal essentials in a daypack. Meals during the walking programme and two guesthouse nights are included. Actual houses, room sharing, bedding, washing facilities and guide language are confirmed in the proposal. We use the village names to describe overnight locations; the photographs do not promise a particular accommodation.

Day 1 — Marrakech to Tahliouine: the first view over Azzaden

Drive from Marrakech via Asni to Imi Oughlad, where the mule team prepares the main bags. The walk starts through the village and climbs towards Tizi n’Tacht before descending to Tahliouine. A lunch stop along the route gives time to look back over the first crossing rather than hurry straight to the house. Around four hours of walking are indicated in the source. The pass height is given there as about 1,900 metres, an approximate route figure rather than a surveyed measurement. Your first night is in a village guesthouse in Tahliouine.

  • Approximately 4 hours walking
  • Via Tizi n’Tacht, about 1,900 m in source
  • Initial road transfer duration to confirm
  • Night: Tahliouine guesthouse

Day 2 — Matate and Aguersioual: a full mountain day to Tinghrine

Leave Tahliouine on the uphill path through juniper terrain towards the Matate pass, approximately 2,100 metres in the source. The view opens across the Azzaden landscape before the trail descends through the Matate valley and its settlements. A second climb towards Aguersioual takes the route over to Imenane. The source repeats variants of this pass name; it describes one crossing, not an extra stage. Reach Tinghrine, also written Tinaghrine, for the second guesthouse night. Allow about six and a half hours and the published approximate gain and loss of 800 and 700 metres.

  • Approximately 6½ hours walking
  • Approximately +800 m / −700 m in source
  • Via Matate and Aguersioual
  • Night: Tinghrine guesthouse

Day 3 — Tizi n’Tamatert to Imlil: the last crossing before Marrakech

Follow the Imenane village paths towards Tizi n’Tamatert. The source gives the pass at around 2,200 metres; the exact line and current conditions are settled by your guide. From the crossing, the route turns towards Aït Mizane and descends to Imlil, given at about 1,750 metres. Lunch is planned before the return road transfer. The walking estimate is around five hours, followed by roughly an hour and a half of driving in the programme, subject to traffic and road conditions. Confirm the drop-off before booking onward travel.

  • Approximately 5 hours walking
  • Via Tizi n’Tamatert, about 2,200 m in source
  • Approximately 1½ hours road return, conditions permitting
  • Programme ends in Marrakech

Who this trek suits

Hill walkers wanting a short village-to-village trek with no summit ascent

Fitness and pacing

Be ready for consecutive mountain days and a long second stage. Uneven paths, sustained climbing and repeated descent make fitness more relevant than whether you have trekked in Morocco before. Times and elevation figures are approximate; discuss any limitations and the pace with the team.

Weather and equipment

Ask the local team about your dates. Snow, rain or heat can change the suitable route. Bring broken-in walking footwear, sun protection, waterproof and warm layers. Agree drinking-water provision and carry the day’s essentials. Technical winter equipment or a winter variation needs a separate confirmed plan.

Guesthouses and main luggage

Two guesthouse nights are planned, at Tahliouine and Tinghrine. Confirm the exact houses, room sharing, bedding and washing arrangements. Mules carry agreed main luggage where terrain permits, not participants as an included service. Overnight camping is not planned; the source’s generic tent-and-mattress line needs operator clarification.

Request an accurate quote

Send dates, party size, walking experience, dietary needs and guide-language preference. The source offers groups of four to twelve or private departures, subject to confirmation. Check meal boundaries on transfer days, water, luggage limits and the Marrakech pickup and drop-off. No live price or departure availability is invented here.
