A family trekking company rooted in Morocco
A trekking company with nomadic roots
Trek Désert Maroc is a family trekking business led by Khalil Bouhajra, whose family comes from the nomadic life of M’Hamid El Ghizlane. Desert paths were part of that life before they became walking itineraries for visitors. Moving with the seasons meant knowing where water and grazing could be found, and when to move on. That relationship with the land shapes how we plan a trek today.
We organise walking journeys across the Moroccan Sahara and mountains. Before suggesting an itinerary, we want to understand the walking you enjoy, the time you have and how you prefer to spend your nights. A first family camping trip calls for different decisions from a demanding trek with experienced walkers.

Choose the walk that suits your group
Our gentler desert routes involve roughly two to four hours of walking a day; longer stages can take six to seven. We separate walking days from transfers from Marrakech, Ouarzazate or Agadir. Compare terrain, daily effort and overnight arrangements alongside total trip length.
Private treks can run for one traveller. Shared departures need at least two participants, with a maximum of 15 travellers per trek. In the desert, your crew includes a guide, camel handlers and a cook. Baggage camels carry personal belongings, camp equipment and the kitchen.
A viable family business and work for local teams belong together. Guides, cooks and camel handlers make the journey possible through their skills and daily work. Sharing our culture happens through conversation and camp routines. People’s privacy matters, and photographs of individuals should begin with their permission.
The desert between M’Hamid and Foum Zguid
Our desert trekking territory stretches from M’Hamid towards Foum Zguid. Routes can reach Erg Zahar, Erg Smar, Erg Chigaga and other areas according to the programme. Between the dunes are stony plains, sandy stretches and tamarisk country. The route you choose determines how those landscapes unfold.
Overnight stops are part of planning the walk, giving successive camps different surroundings and views. We provide sleeping equipment, and meals and drinks are included in our trekking services. Tell us about dietary requirements before departure so the cook can prepare accordingly.
Mobile camps have simple facilities: there are no toilets or washing facilities during the walking stages. Showers and toilets are available at the fixed camp when your programme includes a stop there. A single tent is available without a supplement, and couples can share. Sleeping under the stars is possible when temperatures and conditions allow.
Our desert season runs from mid-September to mid-May. Looking after this landscape means everyday choices about waste, resources and respect for living and working spaces. Local knowledge helps us choose a route and respond to conditions rather than treat the itinerary as something that cannot change.

Mountain journeys shaped by local knowledge
Our mountain areas include Toubkal, M’Goun, Ouanoukrim, Sirwa, Ayachi, Tidirhine and Saghro. Mountain Amazigh communities have distinct histories and ways of life. Their local knowledge belongs to these journeys, just as our nomadic roots belong to the desert.
Our mountain guides are qualified through Morocco’s Ministry of Tourism. Mules carry luggage; tents, village guesthouses or refuges provide accommodation according to the programme. For demanding routes, we discuss rough-terrain experience, endurance over consecutive days and previous altitude exposure. Gentler walks are also possible in the Azzaden Valley and lower High Atlas foothills.
Send your dates, starting city, group size and an outline of your walking experience. Include children’s ages, preferred guide language and dietary needs. We can then explain suitable routes, daily stages, accommodation and the services included in your chosen trip.
